I have recently been preparing for a family event and began to pray that I be a good example of Christ during this time. In His faithfulness, He gave me this scripture, “Live wisely among those who are not Christians, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and effective so that you will have the right answer for everyone.” (Colossians 4:5-6) Done. Thank you, Jesus. I’ll do that, just like you say…. and I set out on this personal mission to fulfil this scripture through my own capability. Because sure I can do that. I know the Lord. I feel close to Him. I’ve totally got this. bahaha! Yeah, until I slammed a very delicious alcoholic beverage. Aargh!
I know better than this. I know my weakness ” just one shot” that throws all of my self control and purpose to the wind. Do you have a weakness like that? One of the things that places the vail back over the alter? A thing that lets Satan slip in to feed you lies?
Anyway, the past few days have been full of disappointment in myself, not wanting to speak to Jesus because I’ve felt I’ve failed Him in some way. Finally, I cried out in Thankfulness and repentance to Him and this is what HE SAID via “Jesus is Calling”………
Bask in the luxury of being fully understood and unconditionally loved. Dare to see yourself as I see you: radiant in my righteousness (what? me?) , cleansed by my blood (Thank you, Jesus). I view you as the one I created you to be. It is my life within you that is changing you from glory to glory (Praise you, Jesus. You are so good) . Pause briefly from time to time so you can consult with the Holy One inside you (that’s where I lost it. Thank you, Jesus. Yes, I will do my best to remember to do this.) He will not force you to do His bidding, but He will guide you as you give Him space in your life ( yes, I give you that space Lord. Take all of it. Take everything.).
Isn’t the Lord’s discipline the sweetest thing?! Man, I love Him.
Listen, I just want to encourage you guys (and myself). A journey of perfection is unrealistic. We are constantly being changed. Find peace in your ‘bad examples” through Jesus’ relentless devotion to our purification. We can walk in Righteousness, In truth and in Holiness because of the redemption His sacrifice afforded us. It is finished and we are no longer slaves to sin.
